The Temple Israel Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund has been the private way rabbis at Temple Israel have helped those in our community and congregation who are in need of financial assistance. The fund operates entirely on your generosity.
The COVID-19 crisis has caused great pain and heartache to so many people in our congregation and community. A number of our members have been out of work for months and are having difficulty paying bills.
Rambam, also known as Maimonides, the 12th Century rabbinic scholar and commentator, said that the greatest way to give charity is to help a person find lasting work so they will no longer need charity. The second best way to give Tzedakah is to give so that the donor and the recipient do not know each other. Helping our fellow congregants through the Discretionary Fund achieves this goal.
The Tuesday following Thanksgiving has been designated Giving Tuesday. Please consider a donation to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund this year since the fund is particularly in need of support. Any amount you can share will be helping someone in need close to home. Thanks for your contribution!
